The Changing Role of Testers

“Paul will provide an industry perspective regarding the changing roles testers in software development. The diversity of the systems we test and the pressure on us to deliver more with less was never greater. This talk will discuss the widespread move to ‘shift-left’ and ‘embedded testers’ to implement test-driven and behaviour-driven development approaches and the pressure to and Paul will present these as an alternative to traditional waterfall and Agile methods. Needless to say, most organisations end up implementing a hybrid of multiple approaches.

His talk will reflect the changing role of testers in these turbulent times and he will suggest that we need a New Model of Testing to be ready for some serious challenges ahead. The New Model focuses on the core thinking skills of testers rather than the logistical challenges. The model has implications for tester skills and training, the use of automation, developer-tester relationship, decision-making and possibly certification too.”
